The glasshouse, eight summers later

First light

Our story

We met on a rainy afternoon in an iron-and-glass greenhouse. Carlota was restoring its stained-glass windows piece by piece; Íñigo had ducked in to shelter with a broken umbrella. He asked if he could watch, and stayed for three hours.

That day we learned that light changes everything it touches. Eight summers later, we’ll be waiting for you by the sea, to watch it pour through the windows on our wedding day.

The day

One August evening, from the garden to the last dance.

  1. Ceremony in the hydrangea garden

    At the foot of the tower, among blue and pink hydrangeas, with the sea beyond.

  2. Drinks in the glasshouse

    Vermouth, Cantabrian anchovies and a string quartet beneath the glass dome.

  3. Dinner beneath the tower

    Long tables on the terrace, candlelight and the lighthouse glowing in the distance.

  4. Dancing

    In the stained-glass hall, until the sea breeze sends us home.

  • Coach from Santander

    A coach will leave Santander at 16:45 and another the centre of Comillas at 17:30, returning at 1:00 and 3:00. Sample times.

  • Where to stay

    Manor houses and small hotels in Comillas and along the nearby coast. On a real website, our list with booking codes would go here.

  • Summer garden

    Light fabrics and soft colours, like the hydrangeas. The ceremony is on the lawn, so block heels are best.

  • The Cantabrian breeze

    Evenings by the sea turn cool, even in August: bring a wrap or a light jacket.
